Hello all

Just to let you know my GP is referring me to an immunologist. It is because of the global effects of my wonky immune system need some oversight and she thinks this is the best person.

Bernice sees an immunologist over her salicylate benzoate intollerance for her epipen.

but I am told they do specific tests/ work out complex immunity problems too.

Has anyone else seen one of these?

Hi Jenni

No, I don't know anything about this, but hope it means you find some relief from your problems. I didn't realise Bernice had an allergy.

Hi Jenni

I see an Immunologist and have done for about 10 years. As well as RA I also have Bronciectasis (a lung disease) and a very poor immune system. Because of this I have replacement immunoglobulin every 6 days this regime gives me the best response against infection etc. The immunologist is convinced that all these conditions are related and my RA is worse when my lungs are bad.

I am sure this is not at all related to your problems but interestingly my immunologist used to work in a Rheumatology department. My current RA consultant specialises in immunology and RA.

Hi Jenni,

Yes I have heard of immunologists too and my Aunt (by marriage) who has severe RA also has the treatment Davannah receives. This is at UCL and she has had some good results after failing on absolutely every other med. She's been on trials etc and tried many biologics and this immune replacement treatment seems to be the only thing which was working thus far.

I actually think some rheumys do this too.

Hope it works out VERY well for you.

Love,

Amanda

Dear Davannah,

Lovely to 'meet' you. I am so sorry to hear of your problems, what a suffering the lung disease must be.

I am glad you are helped by the iummunologist.

Love,

Amanda

Hi Jenni

I too have heard about this treatment at UCL but thought it was a 'one-off' for someone who was extremely ill. However it sounds like it might be used more frequently than I thought. Perhaps it will give a much broader perspective of your conditions from which the physicians can work. Do hope you get an early referral with a positive outcome.

My son, Ian, completed the BUPA Great North Run on 15th September running for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS). You can read his story at http://www.justgiving.com/ianlukewilson

Hello Davannh

Lots of best wishes, love Julia x

Ooooh Jenni - this sounds interesting. You sound a bit tentative about the appoinment but maybe the immunologist might be the one to see the bigger picture for all your problems. I do hope so for you Jenni. Take care.
